One of the big events held in Indianapolis every year is the Indianapolis 500. This race attracts people from all over not only for the event, but for the 500 Festival leading up to it. If racing isn't really your thing, there are plenty of other attractions. Explore the outdoors by visiting White River State Park. This beautiful natural environment is home to the White River Gardens, the Indianapolis Zoo, and every year they it hosts a jazz festival in the park. Last but not least, one event that is worth stopping by for in August is the Indiana State Fair, the oldest running state fair in the country.
Another fun activity while in Indianapolis is taking in the many museums. Check out the Eiteljorg Museum of American Indians and Western Art, the Indianapolis State Museum, the Indianapolis Museum of Art, or the Children's Museum. To get a better look at what Indiana was like while it was first being settled by the pioneers, visit the Conner Prairie, an outdoor living history museum. Other attractions include the Hilbert Circle Theater where the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra plays and also the Indiana Repertory Theatre. For a taste of Indiana's sports, take in a game with the Indianapolis Indians, Pacers, or Colts. For shopping, head to Fountain Square for great boutiques, galleries and antique shops.
